Space for full classes, small working groups, or independent research.
Access to help and support from Mrs. Lyons, Teacher-librarian.
30 computers with access to a laser jet printer.
Laptop, screen and projector for presentations. Theatre style seating if required.
Access to on-line encyclopedias: World Book and Britannica.
Access to databases (Ebsco, Jstor, GALE) for research.
Encyclopedias and database links for remote access. Passwords available from the Library.
A variety of popular magazines.
A place for study or relaxation.
Chromebooks to borrow for one block at a time.
Board games, chess sets, and card games.

Monday 8:00 – 2:05 (Closed after school for PLC meeting)

Tuesday 8:00- 4:00

Wednesday 8:00 – 4:00

Thursday 8:00 – 4:00

Friday 8:00 – 2:30

*The library will occasionally be closed after school for staff meetings (once a month), committee meetings, etc., but most days it will be open after school!

*When choosing books, remember that some books are geared towards a more mature audience and some books are written with younger students in mind. Read the description of the book in the catalogue and read the back of the book when you receive it to see if the book is a good fit for you as a reader. Every reader has different preferences for style, language, content and visuals. Also, every reader has a different comfort level when reading about topics that may be sensitive. Know yourself as a reader and work to choose books that fit your preferences and comfort levels. If you need help choosing a book that is a good fit for you, please come and see me or email me!

*If you are using your cell phone, etc. to listen to or view audiobooks or e-books, please make sure your wi-fi is turned on. I’m not sure if these books use data, but they probably do, so turn your wi-fi on to avoid any data charges!

Vancouver Island Public Library

Located just up the road from our school, the public library has a wealth of physical and digital resources. They also have clubs and activities designed specifically for teens.
